Made in Italy
3 DVD-Box dedicated to the Neapolitan School of the Eighteenth Century.
Riccardo Muti brought these titles to the Salzburg Festival during his tenure as Artistic Director.
LIVE Recordings with video-introductions by Riccardo Muti subtitled in English.
Jommelli’s and Mozart’s Betulia Liberata and Paisiello’s Missa Defunctorum, the latter conducted by Muti again in May 2019 in the Cathedral of Pavia and at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence.
Jommelli’s and Paisiello’s works are performed in the wonderful setting of Basilica di Sant’Apollinare in Classe, UNESCO Heritage for its world-wide famous Byzantine mosaics from the Sixth Century. One of the most visited Italian churches.
Mozart’s Betulia Liberata, recorded at Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna, shows the influence of the Neapolitan School of the Eighteenth Century on the young Austrian composer, who personally met Jommelli at the age of 16.
On the front cover: the Gulf of Naples in a gouache from the 18th Century
